The location of your spam folder depends on which email client you use.
Locate your email client from the list below and follow the subsequent steps to access your spam/junk folder:
- Yahoo Mail: Click 'more' beneath your 'sent email' folder and locate the spam folder in the expanded list.
- AOL Mail: Scroll down to locate your spam folder right beneath 'IMs' and above 'trash.'
- Gmail: Click 'more' and scroll down the expanded menu. The spam folder will be between 'all mail' and 'trash.'
- Outlook: Scroll down past 'sent mail' to the folder marked 'junk.'
- Hotmail: Beneath 'inbox,' find a category called 'folders;' the 'junk' folder should be first.
Your spam folder should automatically differentiate between legitimate mail and junk mail, but if a legitimate email ends up there, you can right click on the email subject from your spam folder and mark it as 'not spam.' Alternatively, if junk mail makes it into your main email address, you should mark it as 'spam' or 'junk' before deleting it, so your email provider understands to filter messages from this sender to your spam folder going forward.
Follow the steps in this guide to permanently whitelist an email address.
